At Erath Winery, our wines are an expression of the land around
us. Our signature vineyards - Prince Hill, Niederberger, Juliard, Fuqua, 45th Parallel North, Lillie's and Knight's Gambit - lie on over 118 acres in the Dundee Hills Appellation and produce distinctive fruit with strong individual characteristics. "Great wines are grown, not made." -- Dick Erath
Prince Hill Vineyard
Prince Hill Vineyard, 1.5 miles west of Dundee on the right side of
Worden Hill Road, has deep, iron rich jory soil
and a due-south exposure, ideal for growing grapes in the Pinot family - Pinot Noir,
Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc.
This 34 acre site is known for consistently
producing wines with a deep, saturated color and complex flavors with
nice richness.
Niederberger Vineyard
Niederberger Vineyard lies on 16 acres of a hillside adjacent to Niederberger Road
one mile west of Dundee. The soil varies dramatically from the top of
the vineyard to the bottom. Along the upper slope, just under a thin
layer of top soil, is a mix of large and small basalt rocks. The bottom
section of the vineyard is more fertile with a deeper layer of soil and
a broken layer of small rocks 3-6 feet below the surface. Our warmest
vineyard, Pinot Noir ripens here at least a week before Prince
Hill.
Juliard Vineyard
Juliard Vineyard, a ten acre parcel adjacent to Worden Hill Road owned
by Julie Staigers and Jerry Koschal, was planted in 1986 with predominantly Pinot
Noir vines and a small quantity of Riesling. The due south facing hillside with
deep-red jory soil produces Pinot Noir with distinctive berry flavors
and good richness.
Fuqua Vineyard
Gary Fuqua, one of Oregon's vineyard pioneers, first planted vines on his prime Dundee Hills site in 1972. His 7 acre vineyard, at a mean elevation of 600 feet, is located on the east flank of Worden Hill Road. The complexity of the wines made from Fuqua Vineyard is derived from twenty year old vines rooted deeply in weathered basaltic soils.
45th Parallel North Vineyard
Herb and Ellen Sims own 45th Parallel North Vineyard, nearly 13 acres of Pinot Noir planted in mostly woodburn
soils in the Dundee Hills.
Lillie's Vineyard
Located next door to Juliard Vineyard and across Worden Hill Road from Prince Hill, Lillie's Vineyard is owned by
Tom Edwards. About 8 acres are planted.
Knight's Gambit Vineyard
Don and Beth Knight planted Knight's Gambit in 1988. Like Fuqua Vineyard, it is also located on the east flank of Worden Hill Road. Knights Gambit spans about 34 acres of vineyards.
